| All systems go at the New Lifeboat Station (8 July 2010) |
On Thursday 12th August the slipway launch and recovery trials at the new offshore boathouse at Lane End take place with a 16m Tamar class lifeboat similar to the one which will be allocated to the Bembridge Station. Villagers and visitors will be able to watch the trials during the day – at various states of tide – from several good vantage points including Lane End beach, the car park viewing balcony or the walkway by the Lifeboat View Cafe. The new station is due to be handed over by the contractor to the RNLI at the end of August, while the new all-weather lifeboat the RNLB Alfred Albert Williams (no 16-17) is due to arrive on Sunday 26th September after extensive crew training exercises during that month. Demolition of the former inshore boathouse and the construction of its replacement is to start in the Autumn. Further information from Murray Loake, Press Officer RNLI Bembridge Guild, 872593 |
