Reconstruction update - ALB Boathouse, RNLI Bembridge.

Dear Sir or Madam

I write to inform you of the progress to date for the project at RNLI Bembridge as well as bring you up to date with our planned work over the coming weeks.

Since our last update some major changes have occurred to the appearance of the site; the jack-up barge has been removed, the structural timber frame of the building has been erected and the access walkway to the boathouse is almost complete. Scaffold to the exterior of the building has been put in place to allow operatives to deck the roof as well as begin the task of fitting the studwork walls to the exterior of the building.

Although the heavy lifting of the project has been completed smaller lifts of plywood, softwood timber and other building materials are still required. To enable these operations a temporary crane platform has been constructed over the tipping cradle and first section of slipway. On this platform is positioned a small eight tonne crane. The availability of a crane with the addition of four temporary fenders secured into the seabed means that deliveries can continue via sea keeping traffic at the landward end of the site to a minimum.

With the timber roof decking complete and providing relative shelter against the elements the building fit out is in full operation. The first stage will be to construct the ground floor in order to provide additional storage space for the remaining building materials and tools. From this platform the exterior walls will be constructed, this operation is predicted to be complete within the next six weeks. The zinc cladding to the roof will commence shortly providing a visible colour change to the buildings roof.

Over the forthcoming weeks we are aiming to complete the installation of services along the new access walkway enabling the flooring to be laid and the new walkway to become the main point of access to and from the new ALB boathouse. This will mean that the old walkway will become surplus to requirement and can be demolished. Prior to operations commencing we will keep you fully informed as to our planned works.

At the landward end of the site the drainage works are nearing completion allowing the foul water from the new boathouse to be connected into the existing sewerage system. The fresh water supply to the boathouse will be connected along with BT lines and power supply. To conclude the operations the area will be block paved improving the appearance of the area.

May I take this opportunity to thank all the local residents for their support over the past months.

Yours faithfully

Nuttall John Martin
