On Wednesday we received reports from members of the public who found gates across level crossings padlocked shut. When we made enquiries the train company, South Western Railways, said that they had to barricading off the level crossings because of concerns for public safety, this is because they have identified that the newly acquired trains may have compromised visibility on approach to the level crossings. Therefore, they have closed the level crossings in order to undertake risk assessments and then for their railway maintenance team to carry out any required remedial works to restore train driver visibility on approach to these crossing points. Please be aware of the inability of having through routes in these locations and plan for a (long) diversion around them.
At the current time the estimated date for potential reopening is 13th August 2021 https://www.southwesternrailway.com/destinations-and-offers/island-line/island-line-upgrade
